I got the chance to jam with Hank and Fapy in Samois last year :D
He obviously knows his way around the guitar but I am sure he would tell you himself that he is not ready to challenge Bireli, Stochelo, Fapy etc etc....... A really nice guy too. I know others here have jammed with Hank, possibly at Le Q

My Dad would be absolutely made up if i'd played with Hank! :D
I wish he'd stop mucking about and release a Gypsy Jazz CD.
I heard a couple of samples from that Quecumbar CD, & i think he's alright. I don't care if he's not totally brilliant, the guy's a fucking hero! 8)

Whilst we're at it here's a clip of John Jorgenson doing 'Man of Mystery'. I'd love to hear the whole thing, even if the bastard has nicked my idea. :P

And just to round it off - This looks interesting!

Thanks for that Ewan. Very interesting, & some good pics on the site.
I grew up with The Shadows music, 'coz my Dad is a big fan, so i've always had a soft spot for Hank, & i'm really pleased he's playing Gypsy/Jazz. :D
Get a bloody CD done Hank!

I have footage of his Quartet - I'm waiting for Hank's approval before I post it on our youtube page.
I do think he's in the studio at present working on a CD, and he's in Melbourne this month for a concert.
Speaking of Samois, I think there'll be a healthy smattering of Strine accents around the island this year..:-)

I'll look forward to those.
Meantime, i just downloaded Stars of Gypsy Swing - Le Quecumbar Patrons from Linn Records.
£11.00 compared to £21.49 for the CD on Amazon. I'm happy with that.
Not listened to it all yet, but i have to say that i think Hank's two tracks (Coquette & Noto Swing) are really cool. 8) The rest of his band really swing as well. Great rhythm section & accordionist. Any idea who the other band members are?

accordion - Nunzio Mondia;
rhythm - Gary Taylor
bass player's name escapes me at the moment.
not sure if that's the band on Noto Swing and Coquette - nice arrangements of both - but that's who played OzManouche with him.

Thanks again for the info Ewan. 8)
Glad to see someone is around on this deserted board, even you have to stay up 'til the early hours!
Not heard it all yet, but the rest of the CD sounds pretty damn good as well btw!

Here's a pic of the man at Samois 08, given his status in the guitar world he seems like a genuinely nice guy.

My favourite on the Quecumbar CD is Step wing by Lolo Meier
