Hello

after a while being a lurker I have decided to join the forum.
I must confess the main reason I joined does have an ulterior motive.
In a nutshell I have ordered a Aylward laminate which I expexted to be getting quite a while ago but after waiting for much longer than I thought I contacted Rob Aylward a couple times but got no reply.I can appreciate guitar makers are often liable to overun delivery dates but has anybody tried to contact Rob Aylward and been successful as I'm having no luck at the moment.

Cheers

Well, I know he's done 2 at least. Cabo's and Isaac Lee's. I'm still waiting for one, but in Aylward Standard Time, I'd say this was a blink of the eye.

I'm still waiting for mine as well, I contacted him recently and he apologised for the delay, but I'm not in a super rush, and these things do take time.

If anyone can't wait anymore I still have this for sale. (I'm in no rush to sell it, which is why I still have it at the moment)

I would consider part exchange for anyone looking to upgrade their Gitane/Cigano etc so I have a kickabout instrument.

Aylward Oval hole. Made in 1999. 14 fret oval hole. Solid BRAZILIAN Rosewood back and sides. Big tone pickup installed.

Other info:

Walnut neck
Chrome tailpiece
Chrome schaller enclosed tuners with ebony buttons
ebony fretboard and bridge
european spruce top
hiscox case (with a few dings in it)

The top has a crack in the lower bout about 2" long. It was mended by Rob Aylward.

The guitar's top has recently been refinished by Godefroy Maruejouls.

I am looking for £1800

I can send more detailed photos on request.

I am still waiting but I have now come to terms with it! I placed my order 9 months ago so compared to the top US builders (who don't employ staff or sub-contractors) this is still early days.

I remember when Jimmy D'Aquisto (RIP) was on a two year wait and would hike his prices to slow down demand. The thing is the inflated price applied to everything on order and not built!! Imagine deciding to go with a $10K guitar to be told after 12 months you would need to find another $5K if you wanted to own it. At least Rob isn't it that league!

I guess most of us having a poke at Rob have a room full of alternative guitars so none of us are suffering much. It must be the Christmas spirit - I am turning soft.

Happy Christmas to you all BTW.

Emailed Mr A. He's had the workshop re-roofed or something, which has slowed things down. January is the expected delivery. Great !
Having had a few things built by luthiers, and as a repairer myself, over the years, I've learnt not to hassle them, but that contact every 6 months is a good idea, just to keep everyone awake.

I too, was lucky enough to get my name on the list of 10 guitars Rob is currently building. However, I haven't heard anything from him, nor managed to contact him for a while now.

Has anyone managed to get hold of Rob recently for an update?

Although, I think I'm going to head Rene's advice now though and not hastling him :D
