Bone bridge

Post by satriani »

i have just got a gitane d hole and it sounds great. An idea struck me today which is that i havent yet seen a selmer style guitar with a whole bone bridge but some people say that bone sounds better than other stuff. Has anyone tried making one and if so, how does it sound. It seems like a good idea to me ?

It would probably be difficult to find a piece of bone big enough with the quality required to make a bridge, although I've seen a standard bridge with a slot routed to take a bone saddle.
If I could be bothered I might even be able to punt around and find the photo.
But I can't.

Ebony is absolutely fine as a bridge material. No need to change it!

I've just put a cast iron one on mine and the sound is absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, I ruptured myself carrying the guitar.

I find using bricks and mortar to make a bridge can somewhat spoil the varnish on the soundboard.
Alors! Un, deux...

.......Not unless the varnish has been laid on just as thick as the mortar.

And if I could be bothered, I'd make you one. But I can't. Really not worth it.
