Sad indeed.

Alice Coltrane died on the same day.

He also played with Zappa in the 70's - Dude

Yes very sad news; i wasn't aware he was ill so it was a real shock to me.
Glad i saw him at Ronnies a few years ago; with incredible band including Larry Goldings and Idris Muhammed--staggering virtuosity.
One of my fave albums is the one he did with Claus Ogerman "Cityscapes"---really deep playing and great writing from Ogermann. And his great solo on Donald Fagens "Maxine".

He was probably heard by most ears on his famous sax line on George Michaels "Carless Whisper"

my favourite Brecker (perhaps because I don't like fusion that much) is on Chick Corea's beautiful (and all acoustic) Three Quartets album. The last track is a fantastic six minute version of Confirmation with just sax and drums.

Yes sad news, I love Brecker's playing...always enjoy listening to him on Mike Stern's albums.
