They've all fled. This forum is owned by Cabo now.

I'm still here. Welcome back!

I just joined, from across the pond. Hope to explore the site, discover some of the culture from another perspective.

Still around, just not as much free time lately between gigs and job-hunting. I do miss my 3am gin and forum appointments, though...

Jack, how close to Lenox are you?

Used to be an actor, part of Shakespeare & Co.....

Often thought of moving back. What's the music scene like?

things are good here, but busy for the same reasons as Jack. I don't spend as much time on the internet anymore, and I sort of stepped away from the GJ world for a little while, which I think was good to get some perspective :)

I'm about 45 minutes east of Lenox, in the Northampton area. We're doing really well with a crossover audience (folk crowd, Grisman types, acoustic music fans) but there isn't a ton of straight jazz here. Northampton is surrounded by colleges, and much of the live music is indie rock. The few public jazz gigs for locals tend to be restaurants instead of clubs--one guy owns all the clubs in town, and doesn't really book jazz unless it's a huge name--so we've ended up with a lot of private bookings and house concerts in addition to our local gigs.

It's a great location, though, for shooting out to Boston/NY/New England for occasional gigs--pretty central, not too expensive, gorgeous. Think about coming back!

best,
Jack.

I did love the area....My wife and I are planning a swing back east this fall, just a wander to think about other possibilities for our son, place to live. Whenever I get burned out on Chicago, one thing I do love about it, feel grateful for, is the wealth of music.....Alfonso Ponticelli, many others.

Nice to see you here, Jack. BTW, I'm "passacaglia" on djangbooks....always love to read what you have to say, many thanks for your informative posts.
