Selmer #607

Post by Selmer 607 »

Hello!

a little message about a promising upcoming gypsy swing CD release.

Just imagine :
- a legendary guitar,
actually an authentic Selmer guitar of 1946,
serial #607 (Django's was #503)

- five young french acoustic guitarists prodigies,
among the best and most promising of their generation :
Sébastien Giniaux, Adrien Moignard, Noé Reinhardt, Richard Manetti and Rocky Gresset.

Give them one day each in the studio, with the Selmer and a rock solid backing band, Ghali Hadefi & David Gastine on guitars and Jeremie Arranger on double bass.

And there you have it : Selmer #607.
16 tracks, about 60 minutes of high class gypsy swing but also true wonders : duets, down-tempo's, waltz, guests, original songs...

Album release is april 12th.

Hit "Selmer 607" in youtube for a little glimpse of what is to come. New videos are added regularly

Loads of extras around the album on the web site,
mp3 samples of every track, chords progressions, backing tracks, videos, b-sides and more to come :

Check out also the MySpace page :

Cheers and let me know what you think...

It is owned by a young luthier, that works in Paris. He is very secret on how and from who he acquired the guitar so I couldn't tell you more about it... Elements found in the original case that came with the instrument shows that the guitar probably only had one owner most of it's lifetime.

We had Francois Charle - THE expert in Selmer guitars who wrote the "Histoire des Guitares Selmer-Maccaferri" book (and who is prefacing the album) - overlook the guitar. He said it was made and sold in 1946, and is definitely one of the best sounding Selmer petite bouche he had a chance to try.

Woods are :
Body top : Spruce
Sides & bottom : Rosewood
Fingerboard & Head : Walnut
Key : Ebony

Would that be solid or laminated?
Were any of the original Selmers built with solid backs and sides?
The guitar in the video has a divine sound although I suspect the player's lovely technique has something do with it.

Hey,

Sides & bottom are Laminated Rosewood.

Haaa.... Viper's Dream.... Really, really, really out there.... One of the most impressive tracks of the album I must say. I guess you'll have to wait the CD release to hear the full track ;)

And yes, videos are coming... This release is a lot of work, so please be patient :)

Cheers

Hi Folks,

just to let you know that there is a new video on the website :

"Viper's Dream" by Sébastien Giniaux

or should I say :

Sébastien Giniaux's "Viper's Dream"
(as it will be known by now...)

in my opinion (biased of course), a masterpiece, and the solo featured on this video is only half of it.

It can be seen here : www.selmer607.com/eng/
In the "Bonus / Video" section.

Cheers

Three videos HERE of Adrien Moignard playing at "Jazz à Vienne" which show, amongst other things, that hats and shades have taken over from funky shoes as the "must have" gypsy jazz fashion items.
