Volume III has done wonders for me!
I'm gradually incorporating ideas based on the more outside scales.
I practice the phrases you show and then I try to experiment and develop my own.
Volume IV rhythmic placement concepts are helping a lot too.

Wonderful work Dennis!

A lot depends on the scale and also action of your guitar. It seems in general short scale guitars respond better to 11s and long scale ones to 10s. But that's not a rule... What you want to do is get the best compromise between playability and sound. Guitar tops vary in thickness so what suits well...

You'll notice improvement pretty much since day one!
There are lots of things you can use right away and lots of other things that will take more time to master.
It goes from beginning lead playing to finger twisters.
Classic stuff to hyper modern.

Gallato guitars used to be built by Geronimo Mateos, now he has his own brand and the new Gallatos are made in Asia... that might explain the reduced price and... tone If you want a Gallato try to get an old one or get a Mateos they start at 1600 euros or so. Duponts kick ass! I tried a lot of brand...

I say, stick with your Gitane for a while longer until you feel that you have really outgrown it as a player. I've tried about ten of them and they all were remarkably similar in terms of sound and feel. They sound really good, especially for the dough, with a very fat and pleasing sound. A better b...

Yeah a humidifier will help if the top has sunk...another thing to look for it's neck relief (bow) which can also affect action. Anyway, 4mm. shims sound like way too much. If changes in humidity and temperature are drastic where you live, you have to really take care of your guitar. Having two diff...

Yes, he may not call it that or maybe he's not aware of what he's doing but he's definitely a gypsy picker, all the way.

Denis Chang's Jazz Manouche - Technique & Improvisation

I just finished watching Denis Chang's new instructional DVDs on lead playing and MAN! They are absolutely amazing! I have been waiting for something like this ever since I first became interested in Django's music... Denis delivers even better than I could have hoped for. I'm just soooo happy and t...
