RMMGA event at Hargate Hall

Message for Ganondorf. This what went on. I'm guessing you won't remember much about it.

theJazz

Not quite dead yet but will be in a couple of weeks. The usual cause of death for anything with 'jazz' in the title - appathy. Apparently Classic FM worked because it had an FM outlet and theJazz was only on DAB and online. Jazz fans are incapable of mastering these new concepts it has been reported...

Anyway, at least you know what Jimmy got locked up for now!

BTW just got a new DVD for review that shows him coming out of the nick after five months and picking up a guitar in the car park before rattling off Impro #1. Amazing.

Interesting. It may be a 'Wrong un' but these 1950's student grade plectrum guitars can sound OK for gypsy jazz etc. My guess this model has been decorated by its owner in the 50's in homage to his greatness. I have a couple of these, a 1956 French 'Jerome Lamy' and a 1957 Hofner Vienna. Both are ve...

When I was in NY in 1997 I interviewed Remo Palmier for JJG. He got out all these old photos of him and DR during his stay in America. He says all the NY players got a kick out of him being around and that Django prefered to hang with guitarists. The published interview talks of Django staying with ...

In Volpe's book the caption to this photo is

Django is watching Harry's left hand. He must have liked what Harry was playing.

I like the pictures. Is this part of a belated report to Henri Selmer on Django's repeated breaking of his endorsement contract? In his defence I suspect most were not really his. Anyone up for identifying the instruments, where he got it from and did he record with it. I'll start with the blond Gre...

'fraid not - he doesn't seem to figure much until the mid 60s when I suppose nostalgia started to kick in and more articles appeared. In the late 50s all BMG could bang on about was Hawaiian guitars and these 'three chord merchants shaking their hips' and trad banjo players who tuned their instrumen...

BMG mags 1959

I have just got a batch of BMGs from the 1950's and whilst reading them can see the spooky similarities to the present day specialist publishing. Firstly there is a clique of closed minded individuals who struggle with anything new (Ivor Mairants' wonderful Billy Haley concert revue being a possible...
