New Gadjojazz CD

Just thought I would share with you the fact we have just boxed off a quick 'live' CD for the upcoming festival gig market. The band is now a trio with Chris playing his Phonofiddle more, me on purely nylon strings (a flamenco guitar) and Greg on fretless bass guitar. I haven't touched the steel str...

Very sad :( For me his greatest achievement was convincing Grappelli to stop playing supper clubs with piano players and start working with guitarists again. This appearance of his new quartet at the 1972 Cambridge Folk Festival and subsequent tours got me and many others into Django. He put what we...

I am still waiting but I have now come to terms with it! I placed my order 9 months ago so compared to the top US builders (who don't employ staff or sub-contractors) this is still early days. I remember when Jimmy D'Aquisto (RIP) was on a two year wait and would hike his prices to slow down demand....

Anyone else following this saga...? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Selmer-Maccaferri-vintage-guitar_W0QQitemZ250541953666QQcategoryZ2385QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m8QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DMW%26itu%3DUCC%26otn%3D36%26po%3DLCA%26ps%3D4 I suspect the guitar is not all it appears to be. The shape looks strange an...

1. Buy all the Nolan stuff or Robin's gig book if you can only afford one - oh, and a metronome. Learn his changes and chord shapes. Play confident rhythm before you start trying to get you lead chops together. 2. Pick a tune a week and learn it inside out. Listen to the great players and how they i...

Check with your CD manufacturer. Assuming you are doing a decent quantity (i.e. not a short run of CDRs) the presssing plant may take the MCPS (now PRS) money on their behalf before they will ship the CDs. Last time we did something like this on 1000 CDs it was 1000 x £6 assumed trade price X 6%. If...

I thought for a minute someone had posted the 'Django' set we did in afternoon - there were enough camcorders on us. John borrowed my Stimer equipped Dupont and we did an hour set of romping jazz. Not blues and not JJ's usual set. Ken Marley on double bass and Jason Smith from his 'electric' band on...

It's been far too silent here for a few days. Please give me the guitarists' review of the goings on. I have been getting a running report from a violinist mate all week now but get the feeling he missed the good stuff as he doesn't stay out past midnight! This is the last (and first) time I'm missi...

Best wishes with this!

I am coming down to Brum for a couple of Jazz Festival gigs with Amy Roberts the day after. Methinks I could come down the night before and say hello (and maybe have a couple of drinks)?

Any decent hotels nearby?
