Found a Gypsy Jazz Blog

I came across a this site with some interesting music on it. The Boulou album is a treat. It's a bit of a pain to download those rapidshare links, you have to scroll down to the bottom, click "Free", wait 50-70 seconds, enter in the colored text in the box, and click download. Also delete ...

Lots of 'em

...chord in the Robin Nolan gig book that was 'wrong'. There are lots of wrong chords in the Nolan Book, if by right you mean the chords played in the original Django tunes. For example, Nolan introduces a lot of ii-V changes where just a V is played- I guess he wants it to sound more modern and ha...

Download address for this excellent clip

Thanks, I really like Dorado. He has the best stage presence of any of these guys other than Tchavolo. The guy is having fun!

Joscho

Joscho is a great player, untouchable technique. IMHO he's a bit of a Stochelo Clone, but hey Stochelo is great too!

2 cents...

Loving this CD.

Minor Issue: the Robin Katz track (Twelvth Year) has the wrong link which goes to the first Stuart Blagden song. The correct link should be:

Thoughts

I feel as if the question "would Django laugh at us" exposes some paradoxes in Django's music and his legacy. His music is very improvisational but is also riff-based. His music is very esoteric but utilizes mainstream standard melodies and chord structures. Players of "Django's Music...

Companion CD for Robin Nolan Gig Book

I just finished putting together a companion CD for the Robin Nolan Gig Book (the little one with 76 tunes). The CD has only the introduction and heads for the songs, which in my opinion is the best way to learn the tune (flames welcome), and it also allows all 76 songs to be on one CD. I chose Djan...

YES!

I AM THERE.

this is my kind of festival - free - camping by some river in the middle of the desert. Anybody at my fire: it's open bar until you stop pickin' or the pickin' stops us!

Fleur D'Oasis

Fleur D'Oasis(Raphael Fays) - this tune caught me recently as a pretty neat melding of gypsy jazz and flamenco(or something?). The chords sound pretty straightforward, but does anyone happen to have tabs?

Fixed Discography

I got sick of looking at the mangled French characters on the django discography page, and I hated the way I couldn't search the whole document, so my employer paid for me to fix it (wink). Enjoy! Also send me typos or requests...

Not working, but this is....

I have yet to hear a single gypsy jazz tune on the above radioactive pictures station, but that prompted me to find a station that DOES play gypsy jazz, and some pretty great stuff from time to time...

Also

I recommend Soundforge 6.0 if you can get it. You can slow down, speed up(why?!), change pitch, EQ, cut and paste, loop, spectrum analyze, change key, Mix, encode to mp3, and record from microphone. That's what I know, and there are 1000 more features. There seem to be some free versions around... e...
