Re: Argentines

You could give the strings a wipe down on both sides after you play each time, or use some better strings. I've been using those John Pearce 'Nuages' strings for a few years and they sound just like argentines to me, but last much longer.

Re: Videos of Romane, DJM, Ducato and Andy Crowdy at the Q

No I don't think we spoke, but could have - I was pretty trashed by the end so not totally sure. I did have a chat with Romane outside at one point but I don't think you were out there at the time - not sure it was a messy night, had a few too many calvados after dinner there! I'm just working that ...

Re: Wanted - Saga Gitane DG 250 M

Had a look through the french forum and this guy called 'le clone' was selling one in about June last year for 500 euros, know it'sa while ago but he didn't seem to have that much interest so maybe still has it. Says it has a new ebony bridge and has been set up. Put it through google translate, or ...

Re: Wanted - Saga Gitane DG 250 M

If it helps, you could put this on the french forum - Good luck, my mate's got one and they're really nice, a bit bit bassier than the DG255, I definitely prefered it but he wasn't keen to swap. Salut, je cherche une Gitane DG-250M d'occasion. Est-ce qu'il y a quelqun ici qui en vend un, ou qui sait...

By the way, those tabs are in powertab format so you need a programme called power tab editor which you can get free online. Any problems or questions pm me.

Re: A total virgin!

Yeah just learn the chords as a whole first to get yourself playing rather than learning scales yet. You shoud just learn the chords inside out for a load of tunes, and work on getting a good pompe rhythm going - Michael Horowitz's Gypsy rhythm book is quite good, and Denis Chang has made a fantasti...

Re: Gypsy Jazz Endings

Really like using this one, fits in where you would stop dead on a c major chord on beat one of the bar - if they haven't lined up properly it's supposed to be 4 chord stabs, the first one is the normal C ending chord. They're all staccato stabs, sounds nice to play another c chord afterwards, prefe...

Re: Gypsy Jazz Endings

To end on a C chord it would be

-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
---5-2---4-----2------------5----
-5-----3---5-2---3--------- 5----
---------------------5-2-3---3----
-----------------------------------

Although there might be a nicer way of fingering that

Re: Wegen Pick Material

The John Pearce ones seemed a bit pointy on the tip for me. Dugains were perfect for me, that little extra bit of length, but without being too pointy really loosened up my wrist so I could play a lot more nimbly, really like them.

Re: ROMANE, DANIEL JOHN MARTIN, DUCATO PIOTROWSKY & ANDY CRO

Went to this on the Monday, there were only about 20 people in there that time (gather a lot more the previous night) who were all on one side, so they played acoustically. Top notch, stand up show. First time I'd been to the Q as well, which was a great way to start. I live miles away from London, ...
