Who's Who in Gypsy Jazz

The International Gypsy Jazz Archive.

Welcome to participating on creating the international who's who in gypsy jazz, - a virtual Hot Club encyclopaedia with free access, at www.nordi.no/music/hcr/

The ambition is to create the world's first Hot Club index on the web; a non profit website with hyperlinks to more deepening information wherever available. Collecting all this info takes time, and we need all the help we can get. The goal is to have the first 200 pages ready by Jan 2001.

The site when finished will be hosted by DRSP with mirror sites in Europe, Asia, and America.

Why? Because there is nowhere to go to find reliable info about this - yet.

The website shall present all artists, past and present, in the Hot Club style; gypsy swing, jazz gitan, gypsy jazz, jazz manouche, string swing, or simply the Django music. Our goal is to give each artist a presentation with biographical info, a photo, a selected discography, an audio file, and if possible hyperlinks to more info on the web, for instance the artist's own website. You are welcome to supply the archive with info on your favourite Hot Club artists, see specifications below.

Enclosed is a wantlist with some of the artists we would like to receive info about for the archive, and we know this is just the beginning; many names are still missing. Any contribution will be most welcomed, especially corrections and additions.

Here are in general terms the info required for an entry in the encyclopaedia:

The name of the author of the biography, as well as the name of the photographer and/or collector will be given credit at each entry.

All information handled over to the archive will be made available to the public, and since the world wide web is without any copyright protection - make sure all the material is free for publishing.
