It's for this very reason I think it's a good idea to watch other people play. I think you can always learn from watching someone else play whatever their style is.
I once made the mistake of saying something like this while in the company of a well known UK 'expert' on Django during a weekend workshop. I certainly learned something that weekend and it had nothing to do with playing the guitar!!!!
