Who originally recorded...

Hi All

Two tracks - Swing Gitan and Cesar Swing - are often attributed to Django on eg YouTube clips of newer bands covering them. Can't find them anywhere on Integrale, though - another internet meme I guess. Did Django really record these and if so under what name? If not him, then who?

Cheers, swing68

They are not by Django and never recorded by him. They belong to a later generation, not sure who.

The earliest version of Cesar Swing I have is by Schnuckenack Reinhardt and the liner notes say it was written by him. Swing Gitan is down as traditional , I suspect the melody is but it became a 'swing' in the early 90's.

Scot Wise has written about a 1960s album by Andre Dedjean that features Swing Gitan under the name Stephane Stomp; he might be the composer. For some reason, the forum isn't accepting my image upload right now, but you can see a record sleeve here.

best,
Jack.
