Hansche Weiss's guitar
What guitar does Hansche Weiss play. Looking at the CD cover on Deutscher Zigeuner 5, the photo isn't clear, but it looks like "Long" is written on the head stock?
anyone know?
cheers

there is a x-Hans'che guitar in the Favino archive:

I played that particular Favino. I has one of the narrower width necks but the sound of that guitars tone and resonance is un-matched by any guitar I have every physically played or heard. Someone must have stored it underneath a vibrational resonator or something.

"Lanz" is an old german farm tractor company. Perhaps they made a special edition for Häns´che? Who knows? You should ask Michael Dregni. He is not only specialist for Gypsy Jazz Players, but for antique farm tractors, too. He wrote some books about this topic.Swing This! wrote: or "Lanz" or ???

No Selmer styles shown here, but they do have some attractive archtops.

Hi Phil,
Once I got the name of the luthier I contacted some friends and learned that while Lang was an archtop builder; Bobby Falta, original soloist with Schnuckenack Reinhardt's band, brought him an original Selmer and asked for a copy. Lang built approx. 30 other copies based on that guitar of varying styles (nylon string, steel string with slotted headstock, steel string with flat headstock, etc, etc. From the pictures that I have of early German Sinto guitarists, many of them are using Lang's guitars with varying styles and looks, especially those guys in Schnuckenack's band.
Best,
Ted

Ted - thanks, I was wondering when you'd get involved in this discussion
It's interesting that I've not seen these guitars mentioned for sale anywhere, particularly by Jacques Mazzolini. I would have thought they would have been of that rare vintage to make it to his site, as there must be a few of them around.
see you next week at DFNW.
cheers
Phil

Hi Phil,
See you next week,
Best,
Ted
I suspect that of the 30 or guitars that were made, they are all still in Germany, most likely in the hands of the original owners of their families which is why Jacques doesn't have any.Swing This! wrote: It's interesting that I've not seen these guitars mentioned for sale anywhere, particularly by Jacques Mazzolini.
