Maccaferri Octave Mandolin "Djangola"

Postby Neil Frost » Tue Apr 02, 2013 7:22 pm

Robin Bower uses a Maccaferri to play all types of finger style guitar. He came to me with the idea of building an octave mandolin on a Macc body in order to get a sound that would really cut through during acoustic session playing. The scale length is 535mm so it's a shortish Bouzouki or a longish Mandola. I had to shrink the plans and lighten the bracing etc but it seems to have worked nicely. VERY LOUD. Neck is Flamed Maple and body is solid Zebrano bound with Rosewood. Sound hole is DiMauro size and style. Pictures can be seen on my facebook page or have a look and listen here http://youtu.be/GYrecaWAqKI (sorry about the sound quality - smart phone lowFi ). The late Dave Hodson used to do a Mandolin size version which are also great fun.
