The Hokey Cokey

Postby Swing This! » Sat Feb 22, 2003 7:31 pm

What with all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the
moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which almost went un-noticed last week. Larry La Prise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Cokey" died peacefully at age93.

The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin...

They put his left leg in... and then the trouble started.

All these years, I've been singing "The Hokey Pokey"...just me?
Sad to hear he'll no longer shake it all about.

...."Pokey"...yes, some of my American friends told me that's what this classic is referred to over here...kind of adds another humourous dimension to the song, doesn't it?!...in the UK it's definitely "Cokey".

I did always think it was an odd thing to have the second graders singing. Of course now, being married, I can see it's like a western Kama Sutra. One more question, though: what the hell is a cokey?
