I just learned the rythym to django's 1937 version of dinah and was wondering what chord shapes any of you guys play for the Em8 Em7M Em7 part

i use the same chord shape in that passage as the similar passage in J'Attendrai...

Well you could play it a few ways - like this:

0 0 0 0
0 0 0 0
0 0 0 0
2 1 0 2
2 2 2 4
0 0 0 0

or like this:

x x x x
x x 5 5
4 4 4 4
5 5 5 5
7 6 5 4
x x x x

or like this

x x x x
8 8 8 8
9 8 7 6
9 9 9 9
7 7 7 7
x x x x

or you could use some of these voicings with others - I would mix it up to add variety to the song depending on how I was feeling. It's just an Em chord with a descending line in it - note that the fourth chord can be either an Em6 or an Adominant. :)

thanks Nick, I didn't realize until just now that that the first one that you mention, which is the pattern I use from the Cosimini arrangement of Montagne Ste. Genevieve, is actually almost the same thing...

its nice to learn something new every day. :-)
