Reading Michael Dregni's biography "Django" ~ now there's an interesting translation of the above tune...how romantic!

It makes the scene in the "Jazz Hot" documentary where Matelo (with Boulou) is being interviewed by Maurice Cullaz all the more telling:

Matelo: "Le Minche!"
Cullaz: "Le Piche?"
Matelo: "Le Minche! Le Minche...ahhhhhhh Le Minche, le petite secrète fleur!"

at which point Boulou looks toward the camera with a shy, slightly embarresed smile on his face and they rip into the tune and play the shit out of it.

It was a great BBC documentary from (if i remember right) the late 80's(?)--before the Django legacy it was the first time any major network programme had been devoted to the French Jazz scene--Jimmy Gourley and Francis Paudras( of Bud Powell and Bill Evans) were also featured
That Matelot/Boulou clip was like heaven at the time....:-)
