try this when starting out (play bass note on 1 and 3, chors on 2 and 4 except for 8th measure):

Gm6 / Gm6 /|Dm6/F / dm6/F /| A7 / A7/G /|Dm6/F / Cdim/F# /|

Gm6 / Gm6 /|Dm6/F / Dm6/F /| A7 / A7/G /|Dm6 A7 Dmin6 Rest|

Gm6 Dm6/F A7 Cdim F#
3 3 2 4
3 2 0 2
2 3 2 4
x 2 0 3
3 1 x 2

I just tried those chords and I don't think they really work all that well. The melody would be playing the 5th 3rd and b7th of the A7 when you are playing E7, which clashes because those notes are the 4th, b5th and 9th of E. I think the Cdim fits better than the D7, and at the end you need the Dm to A7 to Dm. The chords I posted are transcribed directly from a video of Ninine and Mondine Garcia, whose version is the best I have heard. Try it, it sounds good. You can also go for a different feel by playing around the 5th fret with standard Dm and A7 voicings, and this Gmin6 voicing:

x
5
7
5
x
6

And the Cdim can be inverted and moved up to an Ebdim

i definatly like that gm6 voicing , especially if you do one with g on the third fred then move up to that one on the first measure , it works as a good bass line. i havent seen that video of ninine and garcia , i definatly would like to. this version of jo privat and matelot is the only recording i have of the song. thanks alot , youve been quite helpful.

I've never heard Jo Privat play Two Guitars, but my girlfriend plays violin and in her Mel Bay Gypsy Violin book the changes for the song are exactly the same as for dark eyes.

If you listen to Tchavolo's version of Dark Eyes on the Swing soundtrack, the trombonist actually kicks in with a harmony that sounds to me like it's based on two guitars.

If he plays it in a different key then you could just transpose it.
